Why creatine is the one we would not skip
Creatine monohydrate is the most heavily studied sports supplement there is — hundreds of human trials over three decades, on strength, power output and lean mass. It is also one of the few where 5g a day is the researched amount rather than a marketing number.
It works by keeping more phosphocreatine in the muscle, which is what the body draws on for short, hard efforts. It takes a few weeks of daily use to saturate, so take it every day — including days you do not train.
What it will not do
Creatine is not a stimulant, and you will not feel it the way you feel caffeine. It does not burn fat. Some people hold a little extra water in the muscle early on; that is normal, and it is not fat.
